Josh Lambo’s athletic journey is a powerful example of adaptability, perseverance, and the ability to reinvent oneself. Drafted into Major League Soccer (MLS) at just 17 years old, Lambo spent several years as a professional goalkeeper, competing at the highest level of U.S. soccer. Contrary to some reports, he never played collegiate soccer—his transition came later, after he stepped away from professional soccer altogether. Following his early retirement from the MLS, Lambo made the bold decision to walk on to Texas A&M University’s football team as a kicker, despite having no prior experience in American football.
His soccer background—particularly his years of training as a goalkeeper—equipped him with elite footwork, precision, and mental toughness, which translated seamlessly into his new role. Through relentless focus and a strong work ethic, he earned a spot in the NFL, starting with the San Diego Chargers and later playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Over his NFL career, Lambo became known for his consistency and accuracy, finishing with one of the highest field goal percentages in league history.
Now retired from professional football, Lambo is partnering with Bridge Kickers to mentor and train the next generation of athletes—particularly European soccer players—who are seeking to transition into American football. His story serves as both inspiration and roadmap, proving that with the right mindset and dedication, it’s possible to pivot careers and succeed at the highest level in a completely different sport.
